Billy Crystal recently admitted that he still regrets turning down the opportunity to voice Buzz Lightyear in the original Toy Story. While Crystal’s career has been going just fine ever since, there is no denying the cultural impact of Pixar’s first feature-length film. Not to mention all the opportunities for sequels and spin-offs that Crystal missed out on.

The original Toy Story hit theaters on November 19, 1995 and has been heralded as one of the best animated films ever made. To this day, the film still holds onto a rare 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is beloved by generations of moviegoers. It is no surprise the film spawned 3 sequels, Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3, and Toy Story 4, all of which have been deemed critical and commercial successes.

The first look at the DC and Arrowverse “Armageddon” villain, Despero, has been revealed in new images from The Flash. With the Arrowverse continuing their crossover tradition this year after the Covid-19 pandemic forced them to skip the event last season, producers are excited to show audiences what they have in store this year. But whether Despero will live up to the crossover villains of past years is the real question.

The Arrowverse began its crossover tradition back in the 2014-2015 season in the 2-night event, “Flash Vs. Arrow,” which spanned across the Arrow and The Flash series. In the years since, as the universe expanded, the crossovers grew to include other series including Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, and Black Lightning. The last big crossover event, “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” which also served as the closing chapter for the Arrowverse’s flagship series, Arrow, featured the most powerful villain to date, the Anti-Monitor. In addition to killing Arrow’s hero Oliver Queen, “Crisis” reset the timeline and merged all the Arrowverse shows into one universe, Earth Prime, a new status quo which all the shows adapted to last season.

With Supergirl coming to a close after this season, there is something star Melissa Benoist will not miss: flying. The long-running series has been a fan favorite since its debut, and the ending will undoubtedly be bittersweet for everyone involved. But for Benoist at least, the end will also come with some relief.

Supergirl originally premiered on the CBS network back in 2015, though a lot of the creatives were the same as other CW Arrowverse series on the air at the time. Starting with season 2, the show moved to The CW and began to integrate into the Arrowverse proper through a number of creative crossovers, even while Benoist and company continued their own adventures. Supergirl remained a central figure, and one of the primary heroes in the Arrowverse even after Superman was introduced and continues to be so throughout her final season.

Marvel’s What If…? is looking to focus more on the characters in the second season. Despite Season 1 showcasing so many worlds and apocalyptic situations, it still introduced several fan-favorite characters. The new season is promising to continue that trend while telling the stories of the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse.

As Season 1 of What If…? comes to a close, it has become clear the season was all about setting up characters and worlds to prepare for an end game of Infinity Ultron trying to destroy the multiverse. The finale is poised to bring together all the characters audiences had met and have them join forces to form the Guardians of the Multiverse to face Infinity Ultron, similar to the main Avengers in the main MCU timeline. Likely, fans will also see many of the cliffhanger storylines wrapped up, or at least touched upon in the final episode, as the heroes assemble for the final battle. But it seems the intent was not on delving too deeply into any particular character throughout the season, save perhaps the Watcher himself.

A Marvel executive has confirmed that the studio has 31 more projects in development for the future of the MCU. With all of the post-pandemic releases this year many may have thought Marvel was just catching up with films they could not release in 2020. However, it looks like the studio is just getting started in ramping up their ever-expanding lineup of movies and Disney+ series.

When the Marvel Cinematic Universe [MCU] first launched back in 2008 with the first Iron Man, fans became accustomed to a status quo of about 1 movie a year, occasionally two. After The Avengers, standard procedure was for Marvel Studios to release 2 films a year, which already felt like a lot of content for audiences. And it only continued from there, as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 began the first year of three MCU films in 2017. This year’s Black Widow began the first year of four films, which will continue in 2022. But with all their success, and the fans wanting more, it only made sense to increase production.

Director Andy Serkis has revealed that Venom: Let There Be Carnage is going to be all about the relationship between Eddie Brock and the symbiote. And while that may seem like a no-brainer for fans of the character, it looks like Serkis and company have come up with a new twist on the duo for the film. The question, as always, is how that is going to play with audiences going to see the sequel.

In the comics, the symbiote was an alien entity who originally bonded with Peter Parker (a.k.a. Spider-Man) before finding Eddie Brock. Their shared hatred for Spider-Man initially bonded them together but, eventually, they form a partnership that leads them to become the anti-hero Venom. But with Spider-Man not appearing in Venom or Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the filmmakers focused on the relationship between Eddie Brock and the symbiote instead.

Not surprisingly, at one point while filming Venom: Let There Be Carnage Woody Harrelson wanted director Andy Serkis to do the voice for the character of Carnage. Harrelson was clearly aware of the hype for the character, as fans had been looking forward to a live-action adaptation of Carnage almost since the character’s creation. And who better to provide an interesting voice to match the stunning visual look than Andy Serkis?

For those who might not be in the know, Andy Serkis rose to worldwide fame for his work performing and voicing the break-out CGI character of Smeagol/Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Since then, he has been a go-to for voice-acting and motion capture performances, including roles in Peter Jackson’s King Kong, the updated Planet of the Apes franchise, and the Star Wars sequel trilogy, to name a few. He has a gift for inhabiting unique characters and creating voices and movements that translate well to CGI, hence why Harrelson would immediately think of Serkis while deciding on what to do about Carnage’s voice.

A new video from Marvel’s What If…? episode 7 shows Party Thor meeting Jane Foster. The series has proven adept at pushing well-known MCU characters into unusual circumstances, though many with tragic consequences for their respective universes. Despite the lighter tone, it is likely that the story of Party Thor and his Jane is going to follow suit.

In the “Sacred Timeline” of the MCU, Thor meets Jane Foster after he is cast out of Asgard and lands in New Mexico near her scientific outpost. He has been cursed to be mortal, and they immediately share feelings for one another, culminating in her inspiring him to be a hero and save the day when Loki invades, and him challenging her to use science to explain his magic. They meet again in Thor: The Dark World when Jane is wrapped up in Thor and Asgard’s battle against the Dark Elves for the Aether (a.k.a. the Reality Infinity Stone), with Jane going into a kind of S.H.I.E.L.D. witness protection following that.

Katee Sackhoff, the actress behind the live-action Bo-Katan in The Mandalorian, is hoping for a reunion of Bo-Katan and Ahsoka Tano. With the series reintroducing both characters last season, the fan-favorite female warriors were seen in live-action for the first time. And with Disney+ launching a number of other Star Wars projects in the next couple of years, the team up between the pair might just happen.

Both Bo-Katan Kryze and Ahsoka Tano were introduced in George Lucas’s The Clone Wars animated series. While Ahsoka saw more screentime as audiences followed her journey as Anakin’s padawan and her exit from the Jedi Order, Bo-Katan’s story defending Mandalore alongside her sister and Obi-Wan Kenobi was just as captivating. The last time the pair were together in The Clone Wars was in the closing episodes of the series, where they worked together to repel Darth Maul and his forces from Mandalore in the closing days of the war.

The director of Marvel’s Eternals says the film will explain why the team did not interfere during the Infinity War. It is a question that many audience members have asked since Eternals was announced, and a truly satisfying answer will be hard to deliver. But based on the comic-book history of the characters, there is some precedent.

Created by Jack Kirby when he returned to Marvel Comics in the 1970s, the Eternals have had a difficult publication history. Kirby’s original saga was never finished, and many of his plot lines would be resolved and used as part of retcons for other powerful galactic beings for the next few decades of Marvel. The key was always that the Eternals remained hidden for thousands of years, fighting a secret war against the Deviants while their powers slowly grew. Likely, the movie will follow suit.
