After Fast and Furious 10 and 11 were greenlit, director Justin Lin felt he could change his approach to the story for F9. The Fast and Furious franchise has always thrived on pushing expectations throughout its run, especially once Lin started helming directorial duties after the second film. With Lin’s final three movies confirmed to be the last chapters of the series, he is sure to pull out all the stops.

After the first sequel’s middling success, 2003’s 2 Fast 2 Furious, Justin Lin stepped in to direct the third installment with The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift in 2006. He made a name for himself with that movie and what followed after, Fast and Furious (2009) and Fast and Furious 6 (2013), collaborating well with the cast and crew, especially star Vin Diesel. He left the franchise to pursue his own projects before part 7, but when they knew the series would be coming to an end, Vin Diesel reached out to Lin to helm the final trio of films.
