EXCERPT:
Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor found the Star Wars prequels’ scripts and reliance on green screen sets a real challenge. A lot of diehard fans had issues with George Lucas’s prequel films when they were initially released, criticizing the wooden dialogue and CGI-heavy visual effects sequences. However, for many, McGregor’s Obi-Wan was one of the bright-spots in the series.
McGregor was chosen to play the younger version of Sir Alec Guinness’s Obi-Wan Kenobi from the original Star Wars back in 1999 for The Phantom Menace. He continued the role throughout the prequel trilogy as Lucas continued the story of Anakin Skywalker’s fall to the dark side despite the best efforts of his friend and mentor, McGregor’s Obi-Wan. The last time audiences saw McGregor in the role was as Obi-Wan handed baby Luke Skywalker to his aunt and uncle beneath the setting suns of Tatooine, setting the stage for where audiences would find the young hero in the original trilogy.
