Kevin Feige is excited to be working with Sam Raimi again twenty years after his last Spider-Man film. With the flourishing MCU expanding its genres, especially with the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it was only a matter of time until the right project came around for Raimi. Fortunately for him, after all these years his work is still impressive enough to catch the attention of the head of Marvel Studios.

Raimi is best known for both his Evil Dead cult horror movies and the original Spider-Man trilogy for Sony in the early 2000s. His first superhero film was Darkman all the way back in 1990, making him a veteran of the genre. Since his last Marvel movie with Spider-Man 3, Raimi has kept busy with his own projects, including the supernatural horror favorite Drag Me to Hell and Oz the Great and Powerful (a prequel to The Wizard of Oz).

Star Wars: The Bad Batch creator Dave Filoni is getting his own action figure based on his character in The Mandalorian. Filoni’s work in the Star Wars franchise has long made him a favorite amongst long-time fans. Even George Lucas himself took a shine to the man, making Filoni the “chosen one” of Star Wars creatives currently.

Finding his passion for animation early on, Filoni’s name rose to prominence for his work on Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender, Fox’s King of the Hill, and Disney’s Kim Possible. Being a big Star Wars fan, Filoni jumped at the opportunity to work with George Lucas on his Clone Wars series, where the pair got to know one another. Even after Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney, fans have felt the franchise continues to be safe in Filoni’s George-Lucas-approved hands. He has proven his skill with hit series like Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, The Mandalorian, and The Bad Batch, not to mention his direct involvement in creating fan-favorite characters Ahsoka Tano and clone Captain Rex.

Dean Cain of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman has recently shared criticisms of Marvel’s new Captain America. With the current political state of the US, it is not that surprising for celebrities to make statements either supporting or opposing some of the statements made in pop-culture nowadays. And with Captain America especially, anything Marvel has him say has the potential to stir up controversy.

Cain’s prominence in the world of entertainment began in 1993 when he took on the role of Clark Kent/Superman on Lois and Clark. While the series only lasted 4 years, it left an indelible impression on comic book fans, who were starved for good live-action superhero content at the time. Since then, none of Cain’s projects have removed the image of being Superman from the minds of fans, hence why his criticisms about Captain America have more weight to them.

A new trailer for Pokémon Master Journeys: The Series confirms that Netflix plans to release the series in September 2021. The series follows the previous entry, Pokémon Journeys: The Series, which premiered on Netflix in 2020 when the streaming got the rights to the newest releases of the Pokémon franchise from Disney XD.

Pokémon, or “pocket monsters,” as the direct Japanese translation calls them, has been a phenomenon since the late 1990s. In Japan, the anime series is on its 7th installment (seasons and volumes being split differently than the international release). Each era revolves around the latest Pokémon game released by Nintendo. Pokémon Master Journeys: The Series is considered the 24th season of the overall series internationally and the second season to be released on a streaming service instead of broadcast television. Before Netflix, Disney XD had broadcast the three seasons of the Sun and Moon installments with Cartoon Network releasing several seasons before Disney got the rights.

One Pirates of the Caribbean actor thinks that Johnny Depp should return for the sixth installment of the series. Due to a protracted court battle with his ex-wife, Amber Heard, during which she accused him of emotional and physical abuse, Depp’s image and reputation have been tarnished, leaving many film studios unwilling to work with him. For now, Disney has made it clear they do not want Depp involved with the latest voyage of their franchise.

The first Pirates of the Caribbean film, The Curse of the Black Pearl, was released in 2003 with Gore Verbinski directing and Jerry Bruckheimer executive producing. It was seen as a commercial and critical success, and Disney immediately starting thinking about sequels. Depp’s role as Captain Jack Sparrow contributed to a lot of the film’s appeal, even earning him an Oscar nomination for that first performance. Since then, Captain Jack has been a part of every film in the series, the only main character to continue throughout.

Arrow’s Mia Queen actress says she would be game to return to the Arrowverse. After the planned spin-off for her character was not picked up by The CW, it did not seem likely that fans would see Mia or her allies in the future again. And with all the DC shows currently being introduced on the CW, it does not seem like the Arrowverse is going away anytime soon.

Katharine McNamara joined the 7th season of Arrow in the recurring role of Mia Smoak (a.k.a. Blackstar), who fans eventually learned was the daughter of Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak. In Season 8 she got upgraded to “main cast” status as her character travelled back to Star City 2019 to help out during Crisis and had her history rewritten as the timeline changed. Her new future had her name changed to Mia Queen as she grew up without the violence and heartbreak of her past life, though she did lack the physical training of her previous timeline. Audiences last saw Mia taking up the mantle of Green Arrow again in 2040 after her memories and combat abilities were restored by Dinah Drake, setting up the Green Arrow and The Canaries pilot, which The CW sadly did not pick up.

The showrunner of Batwoman confirmed that Season 2 is the end of Kate Kane’s story on the series. After a year hell-bent on surviving despite Ruby Rose’s departure, the show managed to fully settle into its new situation by the season’s end. And truthfully, they did remarkably well finding a way to write Rose out of the series while maintaining a compelling story for the rest of the characters.

Ruby Rose as Batwoman was introduced to the CW DC universe during the ‘Elseworlds” crossover event back in December of 2018. Not long after the special, the CW ordered a series based on the character, with Rose’s Kate Kane taking up the Batwoman mantle in the absence of her cousin, Bruce Wayne/ Batman. Season 1 focused on the backstories of the Kane family, especially Kate’s estranged sister, Beth, who had become the villain Alice after being kidnapped as a child. Following the conclusion of Season 1, amidst the Corona-virus pandemic, Rose made the decision to leave the series, leaving the fate of Kate Kane up in the air.

The director of DC’s Nightwing spoke recently about the role Batman will play in the movie. Despite many rumors that the film might not be happening, it appears that a lot of thought it still going into how a Nightwing movie would work in relation to the rest of the Bat-family. For fans, it just would not feel like a Nightwing story without at least some reference or mention of his extended network of allies.

Nightwing is the alter-ego of Dick Grayson, the first Robin that Batman took under his wing. Though the name has been used by other heroes in DC canon, for most fans the name “Nightwing” will always refer to the persona Grayson took on after leaving the role of Robin and striking out on his own. He was featured in his own comic-series from 1995-2009, showcasing his adventures in Gotham’s neighboring city of Bludhaven alongside other Bat-family allies such as Barbara Gordon’s Oracle.

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn made some waves this week when he replied to an amusing DCEU Superman rumor from a fan. In recent months, there have been a number of fan theories about the current state of the DCEU, especially after Zack Snyder’s Justice League was released. Chief among them is which stars are still attached to the DCEU, and which ones will be “creatively” written out to explain new casting.

Gunn’s current DCEU film is a soft reboot of 2016’s Suicide Squad, which was directed by David Ayer. The original film did well at the box office, but was met with harsh criticisms from audiences and critics. Gunn signing on to direct the sequel was a huge boon for the DCEU, as many hope the same spark he brought to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise could re-invigorate The Suicide Squad.

It looks like Omega’s backstory will indeed be explained in Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 1. The show premiered on Disney+ back on May 4, 2021 (a.k.a. Star Wars Day). Out of all the enigmatic characters in the series, fans seem to have way more theories about Omega and her purpose than any other character so far.

The Bad Batch premiered with a lengthy pilot that set up the stakes and the plot for the rest of the series. Unlike its predecessor, The Clone Wars, the series follows a more linear storytelling structure with Jennifer Corbett as the head writer. The show also differentiates itself from The Clone Wars by including a non-military character, the child Omega, as one of the primary protagonists.
